THERMAL STONE MASSAGE
ONE DAY COURSES FOR THERAPISTS.
Worldwide, Thermal Stone Massage is the fastest growing therapy. The use of stones goes back thousands of years to Ancient Greece and the Native Indians of North America. The modern method of use is accredited to Mary Nelson of the U.S.A. Like many therapists who use hands, fingers and thumbs in massage, she developed repetitive strain which necessitated her taking several weeks off work to recover. Sitting in a sauna one day, her niece walked in suffering from severe back pain and asked her Aunt for help. Taking the stones from the sauna heater, she utilised them to treat her niece. The next day the niece had made a full recovery and Thermal Massage was born.
Without doubt, using the stones to massage can save the therapist from long term problems; many therapists are forced to retire due to tendonitis to the fingers, wrists, thumbs, shoulders and muscles brought on through constant use of the hands. Long term, arthritis may also become an issue. Using the stones can eliminate these problems, but apart from that, the treatment makes clients feel so good that they return for more and thus ensure repeat business.

MEDISTONE BODYWORK
A TWO DAY COURSE FOR PRACTITIONERS.
For therapists already holding a certificate in Thermal Stone Massage, Medistone Bodywork is an advanced treatment, taking it to another level. Advanced techniques are used which are more specifically focussed on treating back problems, neck and shoulder issues, foot pain and sporting injuries etc. The stones come in a variety of shapes and sizes, all performing specific jobs such as effleurage, deep tissue, point holding and tapping etc.
The stonework is combined with hand massage, some shiatsu techniques and electrotherapy. For the latter, we use the "Thumper" massager; the most widely used of machines all over the world, by physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors and sports therapists. "Thumpers" are not vibrators which do little other than rub the skin. Rather, they release muscular tension with tepotment pulsations, penetrating the deepest muscles with little effort from the therapist.
